In some cases, USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) transfers immigration cases to one of their five different service centers. The objective is to balance their workload and promote the timely processing of all of the cases they handle.
However, you can subscribe to GovDelivery alerts to receive an email every time the USCIS transfers the cases. This way, you will be notified if your case is transferred to a different USCIS office.
How is my case affected if it is transferred to another USCIS center?
If your case is transferred, USCIS will notify you, and your receipt number will not change. You do not have to worry if this will cause further delays because the USCIS assures that the processing will not be affected.
Also, if you need to file new forms, you will find the correct address under the section “Where to File” on the form’s instructions and the form’s webpage.
What happens if I want to request priority processing?
If your request qualifies for priority processing and you want to do this after the transfer took place, you need to:
- File your Form I-907 with the Service Center where your petition or application is currently processed, and
- Submit a copy of Form I-797, Notification of Receipt of your petition, or pending application.
If you don’t do both, the USCIS may reject your Form I-907.
How can I follow up on my case’s status?
You can easily verify your case online with your receipt number. Once logged in, you can subscribe to receive email updates on your case. You can also call the USCIS Contact Center at 800-375-5283. Take into consideration that your receipt number will be requested from you.
