USCIS suspends all routine in-person services until April
The coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic has led to many strict measures all throughout the country and the world. One of them is the recently-announced suspension of routine in-person USCIS, United States Citizenship and Immigration Service, services until April 1.
The objective of this measure is to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease. However, they will provide emergency services for limited situations, as they have announced on their website. If you need an emergency appointment, you can use their Contact Center and remember to check the USCIS website for updated information.
“USCIS domestic field offices will send notices to applicants and petitioners with scheduled appointments and naturalization ceremonies impacted by this closure. USCIS asylum offices will send interview cancellation notices and automatically reschedule asylum interviews. When the interview is rescheduled, asylum applicants will receive a new interview notice with the new time, date and location for the interview”, they published on their website. Once USCIS resumes normal operations, they will reschedule all canceled appointments.
New strict measures in California because of Covid-19
On March 19, the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, announced new and strict measures in the state of California because of the coronavirus outbreak, such as a “stay home” order for the almost 40 million residents.
“We need to bend the curve in the state of California,” Newsom said during a news conference, according to Fox News. “There’s a social contract here. People, I think, recognize the need to do more. They will adjust and adapt as they have,” he continued.
This order will enter into force on March 20 at midnight and includes the forced closure of dine-in restaurants, bars and nightclubs, entertainment venues, gyms, public events and gatherings, and convention centers, according to the aforementioned news site.
