Benefits of TPS
Among the benefits of TPS are:
- You cannot be deported from the US;
- You will be eligible for a work permit and a travel permit;
- In the future, the US government may pass a law that grants those with TPS the ability to apply for Green Cards.
Ricardo Haussman, director of the Growth Lab at Harvard University’s Center for International Development, cited by National Catholic Reporter, said, “I know the potential contributions that Venezuelans can give to the world, and especially to the countries that host them now that they are living through this catastrophe.”
Haussman refers to the economic and political situation Venezuelans have been facing for more than two decades, which has led to more than 5 million people migrating to other nations for a better future.
The aforementioned website also said that “some 323,000 Venezuelans in the US currently hold TPS status. It grants a work permit and reprieves from deportation to certain people whose countries have experienced natural disasters, armed conflicts, or exceptional situations so they can remain temporarily in the United States”.
There are other nations that also have TPS in the United States. The Department of Homeland Security announced that it was extending the status for TPS beneficiaries from El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Sudan until December 31, 2022.
